Edward Rudolph Smith Sr, 88, passed away peacefully on July 8, 2019. He was born to the late Annie Elizabeth Howell Vick and Kenneth F. Smith. He is also predeceased by brothers, H.L. Vick and Floyd B. Smith, and sisters, Kenneth Smith Gayle and Faye V. Davidson. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He retired as captain from the Suffolk Fire Department after a career of 32 years. He enjoyed building homes, working on cars and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his son, Eddie Smith (Jane); daughters, Cynthia Eckhoff and Janelle Thompkins; special friends, Katherine Redden and Kim Tate; grandchildren, Laura (Harper), Sarah (Cody), Annie (Ramsey), Travis, Amanda, Paula (Brandon) and Audrey (Jubal); great-grandchildren, Connor, Taylor, Jayden, Gray, Elias, Lyllian, Jane, Everett and Lilly.

Edward’s graveside service will be 4 p.m., Friday, July 12, 2019, in Holly Lawn Cemetery, Suffolk. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Suffolk Fire Department. Post condolences on parrfuneralhome.com.
