Susanne Marie Machak died at home on June 24, 2019, of natural causes. Susanne (birth name Michael) was born Nov. 16, 1953, in Waukegan, Ill., to Bernard P. and Mary Ann (Sedar). A proud veteran of the U.S. Army, Susanne in recent years was active in the Hampton Roads LGBTQ community.

She is survived by her father; siblings, Mark, Michelle and Patrick and their families; daughters, Jennifer (mother of Lucky and Riley) and Jayne; special family members, Jack Murphy and Teresa; and numerous friends and allies. Susanne joins beloved spouse Uschi, who passed in 2013.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Samaritan House of Virginia Beach or Oasis Social Ministry of Portsmouth.
