The Lakeland High School tennis program will have a tennis camp July 31 to Aug. 2 for kids and adults.
The members of the Suffolk community will be able to come out and enjoy three days of tennis fun. Lakeland girls’ tennis Coach Art Allmond is welcoming people from age 10 up to come out and learn about the game of tennis.
“We wanted to offer something to the community where they can come out and have fun,” Allmond said. “Tennis is a great sport to learn and to stay fit with. So, we talked over with the athletic director, and we were able to put this together. It’s going to be a fun time for everyone.”
The camp is $40 a person, and a discount will be given for multiple family members. The session for ages 10-18 will be held each day from 4:30 to 6 p.m. For everyone ages 19 or above, the session will be from 6:15 to 7:30 p.m. Allmond and his staff will be teaching things like the proper grip of a tennis racket, the proper way to keep score and teaching the game and some conditioning.
“The main thing is making sure everyone is learning and is having fun,” Allmond said. “We want to continue to give through a sport that has done so much for our area and our community.”
For registration, Allmond can be contacted at 449-7619 or by email at asallmond@hotmail.com. The camp will be held at the Lakeland High School tennis courts.
