Suffolk Police have not yet identified a suspect in a Friday evening shooting that left one man dead, another wounded and ended in a car crash.

Suffolk Police on Friday identified the fatal victim as Sidney Watson, 19, of Chesapeake. The second victim was identified as Jaylon Marquis Hamilton, 19, of Suffolk in a Monday press release.

City spokeswoman Diana Klink confirmed via email on Monday that Hamilton was the passenger of the vehicle that Watson, 19, was driving.

Hamilton was reported to have been transported to a local hospital on Friday, having suffered a gunshot wound. The Monday press release stated that Hamilton has been treated and released from the hospital.

Emergency Communications was contacted at 6:04 p.m. Friday evening about an accident in the 6000 block of College Drive. Further investigation revealed that the accident involved two passenger vehicles, not three as initially reported.

The involved vehicles crashed near the intersection of College Drive and Magnolia Drive/University Boulevard, according to Klink.

Watson was identified as the driver of one of the vehicles. According to Klink, the driver of the other vehicle sustained no injuries and did not require medical transportation.

Watson was pronounced dead at the scene from his gunshot wound. Suffolk Police have classified his death as a homicide.

“As noted in the initial release, (Watson) was deceased upon arrival of emergency personnel,” Klink wrote in her Monday email. “It was later that his death was ruled a homicide after the Medical Examiner confirmed that a gunshot wound was the cause of death and not any injuries sustained during the accident.”

She confirmed that no suspect has been identified as of Monday afternoon and that the investigation remains ongoing.
