Organization to host golf tournament

The Passion, Dedication & Commitment organization will host its annual golf tournament to bring attention to its cause and raise money for a local nonprofit.

The organization is celebrating its 15th anniversary, and the Aug. 1 tournament is to support Dogs on Deployment. The nonprofit organization staffed by volunteers matches foster families with military personnel to care for their pets during deployment and out-of-town service commitments.

Passion, Dedication & Commitment was founded by Rich and Katie Humphrey. They were motivated to do so by a young man that Rich coached in baseball named Brad. In 2004, Brad died in a car crash. Rich knew he had to find a way to channel his grief into memorializing the young man.

Brad wasn’t the strongest or the best athlete, but he was a hard worker. That led to the Passion, Dedication & Commitment organization being founded and inspired its name. In looking for a beneficiary, they looked for a lesser-known nonprofit that shared Brad’s values of passion, dedication and commitment and were specifically interested in those that served families, pets and the military. Katie Humphrey stumbled upon the Dogs on Deployment organization and was happy to see that it valued all three things.

In previous years of the golf tournament, the goal has been to raise $5,000, and they have exceeded that goal consistently. The motto for the 15th year for Passion, Dedication & Commitment is “15 for 15.” The organization wants to raise $15,000 in its 15th year.

The Passion, Dedication & Commitment golf tournament will be held Aug. 1, and though registration is full, the group welcomes any donation or any type of support anyone in the community shows.

“We are very grateful that this event sells out every year,” Rich Humphrey said. “We are happy to be coming up on our 15th year and are excited about what’s to come in the future with this organization and how we continue to help and impact lives.”
