King’s Fork High School senior football standout Garrett Williams has committed to play college football at Temple University.
With a little over two weeks to go before the football season starts, the Bulldog defensive back will be heading into his senior year not worrying about his recruitment process. He decided to put things to rest by announcing his decision to commit to Temple over the weekend.
After he attended a camp at Temple, the coaches there liked what they saw and offered him a scholarship back in June. Not too long after that, he decided that Temple was going to be the best place for him. He feels like the timing of his commitment before the season gives him the space to focus on his senior season fully.
“The timing of the commitment allows me to focus on my senior season without any stress of ultimately deciding where I will play ball,” Williams said.
Even though there were other schools that were interested in him, Williams felt like Temple led the way due to their consistency. The coaches kept in contact with him and his parents and answered any questions or concerns his family had, whether it was about football or off the field. On the visit, Williams was impressed as well.
“My parents and I were impressed by what the school had to offer outside of football,” Williams said. “We had the opportunity to talk to current players, and after returning from my visit and going over everything, it didn’t take long for me to decide I wanted to commit.”
Williams is more than excited for his senior year because of the journey it took to reach this point. After a standout sophomore campaign that started to put him on college radars, he returned for his junior season ready to go, but a broken leg ended his junior season.
“This season is bound to be special,” Williams said. “I didn’t play last year, so I want to make this last year my best. People tell me all the time to enjoy it, because it will never be the same after this.”
The Bulldogs will be under new Coach Kermit Buggs direction for the season. Buggs, while at Old Dominion University previously, recruited Williams in his time there. Now he will get to work with him hands-on as the Bulldogs look to take South Hampton Roads by storm with their new look.
Williams is also an IB student at King’s Fork.
