James T. Newby Jr.

James Thomas Newby Jr., also known as June, was called home to glory after a short illness on Aug. 5, 2019, at Concordia Transitional Care and Rehabilitation (Nansemond Pointe).
James was born on Dec. 31, 1973, in the Elephant’s Fork community of Suffolk. He was predeceased by his parents, Thelma L.J. Newby and James T. Newby Sr.
He leaves to cherish his memories three children: Xzybre Savage, Ty’janae Newby and Javon Crocker-Newby. He is survived by four siblings: Janice Parker, of Norfolk, William Crocker, of Modesto, Calif., Patrina Newby and Corey Newby, of Suffolk; three aunts, Liz Brown, Clarine Staplefoote and Ruth Crocker; two great-aunts; Bertha Powell, of Suffolk, and Ruth Hairston, of Lexington, N.C., and one great-uncle, James Stagg, of Suffolk. He is also survived by six nieces, Diamond Newby-Byron, Zakiyah Newby, Lemari Wethington, McKenzie Wethington, Saniyah Newby and Lyric Crocker; and nephew, Brenton Key. He is also survived by a special godsister, Cherilyn Willis, and a host of relatives and friends.
A celebration of his life will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15, 2019, at the New St. Matthews Holiness Church, 213 N. Fourth St., Suffolk. Condolences can be offered to the family at Harris Funeral Home, 685 Carolina Road, Suffolk. Interment will be at Holly Lawn Cemetery, Suffolk.
