Capt. Adam C. Lyons, Commander Task Force 1010 and Commanding Officer, Naval Network Warfare Command, was relieved by Capt. Jody Grady in a ceremony Aug. 15 at the Department of Defense complex in Suffolk, amid hundreds of distinguished guests, family members, VIPs, shipmates, staff and former NAVNETWARCOM commanding officers.

Vice Adm. Timothy “T.J.” White, Commander, U.S. Fleet Cyber Command, and Commander, U.S. 10th Fleet presided over the change of command ceremony held at the command’s headquarters on the Suffolk complex. He commended the efforts of Capt. Lyons during his tenure while acknowledging the future success ahead.

“Operators are vital to the success of operations. Adam executed these fundamentals with tenacity and humor. You have ultimately delivered a network platform that is the backbone of the navy warfighting future.”

White noted the vital role the command has in maintaining global operations and management of navy networks. White highlighted Lyons’ major accomplishments.

“The team ensured NMCI successfully passed four major command cyber security inspections, conducted global cyber operations and the implemented the U.S. Navy Off-Ship Information Assurance Services (OIS) solutions and centralized management concepts,” said White.

White welcomed Grady to his new assignment and expressed confidence that he would excel in the position. White commended Grady and described him as a very open, collaborative and honest person.

“You set the foundation for other leaders and set the example,” said White. “I am confident you will earn the trust of the crew because the character of your leadership. You are a person who makes hard choices and are willing to bear that burden.”

During the ceremony, White presented Lyons with a Legion of Merit, gold star in lieu of fourth award for his exceptionally meritorious service while serving as commanding officer of NAVNETWARCOM from August 2017 to July 2019. During his remarks, Lyons lauded the exceptional work of the sailors, civilians and extended workforce of NAVNETWARCOM.

“This command has gone from a cycle of a 3-star, to 1-star, to an almost disestablishment and now to an O-6 and Task Force 1010. It takes certain types of individuals to voluntarily join in that type of volatility,” said Lyons. “Thank you to all the Information Warriors, past, present and future.”

Lyonss next assignment will be as Information Warfare Commander of Carrier Strike Group 8 on the USS Harry S. Truman.

Grady, addressing the audience for the first time as commanding officer, praised Lyons on his success and stated his eagerness to work with his new staff. Grady’s message to the workforce was one focused on the big picture and excelling the commands mission to improving network communications.

“NETWARCOM/CTF1010 has a truly global mission and mind-bogglingly complex,” said Grady. “I look forward to embracing and welcoming the complexities.”

Grady most recently served as commanding officer of Naval Computer and Telecommunications Area Master Station Atlantic.

NAVNETWARCOM was established July 11, 2002 and directs, operates, maintains and secures the Navy’s networks and communications and leverages Joint Space capabilities for Navy and Joint operations. Task Force 1010 was established in April 2015 to tactically command and control the Navy’s computer and telecommunications stations globally.
