Columbus Day closings announced

In observance of Columbus Day, Suffolk city offices will be closed Monday, Oct. 14. Normal operations will resume at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday. The city observes all state-designated holidays. Columbus Day is considered a holiday for the Commonwealth of Virginia, and state offices are closed on this day.
The following facilities, services and departments will observe the following schedule:
- Suffolk Public Works Department and TFC Recycling will pick up trash and recycling as scheduled next week. Bins must be placed at curbside no later than 7 a.m. on the day of collection. For more information on refuse collection, call Public Works at 514-7630.
- The Southeastern Public Service Authority Transfer Station in Suffolk will be open from 8 a.m. to noon on Monday. The Regional Landfill will be open from 8 a.m. to noon Monday.
- Suffolk Transit will run as scheduled on Monday.
- All Suffolk Parks & Recreation Joint Use Recreation Facilities will be open for Before and After School programming only on Monday. The East Suffolk Recreation Center and Whaleyville Recreation Center will be closed on Monday. The Suffolk Parks & Recreation Administration Office will be closed on Monday.
- Suffolk’s four regional parks — Lone Star Lakes, Lake Meade, Sleepy Hole and Bennett’s Creek — will remain open Monday; however, no park attendant will be on duty.
- All Suffolk City Libraries — Morgan Memorial, North Suffolk and Chuckatuck — will be closed Monday.
- The Suffolk Art Gallery will be closed Monday.
- The Suffolk Tourism Visitor Center will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday. The Suffolk Seaboard Station Railroad Museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday.
- The Suffolk Executive Airport Terminal will be unmanned Monday; the airfield, self-service fuel island and restaurant will remain open Monday.
