The QVC Distribution Center off Wilroy Road had a fire in a trash compacter dumpster on Thursday morning.

Suffolk Fire & Rescue responded to the call that came in at 9:11 a.m. Crews found an active fire in the trash compacter dumpster that had previously been connected to the building’s exterior, according to a city press release. QVC staff were able to move it away from the building prior to the arrival of firefighters, and staff also had evacuated the building due to smoke inside the facility.

Crews were able to quickly extinguish the fire, which caused some damage to the exterior of the building, according to the city press release. The building is equipped with a ventilation system that cleared the smoke from the facility, and employees were able to re-enter after about 45 minutes.
