The Nansemond River High School swim teams performed well at the Kecoughtan Invitational last weekend.

The Warriors swim teams competed in the Kecoughtan Invitational over the weekend that features some of the best public and private schools from the Richmond area down to Hampton Roads. Both teams had some impressive individual finishes, with the girls’ 400 free relay team setting a new school record. Coach Shamus Riley felt good about the team’s performances.

“Overall, the team dropped times in most events,” Riley said. “I was very impressed on how well the kids did. The best schools from this area and Richmond area are all featured in the meet.”

The girls’ 200 medley relay team finished 14^th at the event. Selby Heyman, Olivia Browning, Ashlyn Swaim and Ava Hamby swam the event. Rana Ceribasi finished 15^th in the girls’ 200 free event, while Heyman placed 11^th in the girls’ 100 back event. Ceribasi, Heyman, Swaim and Browning were a part of the new record-setting 400 free relay team. Riley knew his girls’ team was capable of setting new record this season and feels the team could break more the rest of the way.

“The group of girls are very talented,” Riley said. “They have the drive to accomplish not only personal but team records. I foresee them breaking more records throughout the season.”

On the boys’ side, Andrew Betts finished 14^th in the 200 free event. Jonathan Sullivan, Justin Croft, Cameron Wilkins and Betts placed 13^th in the 400 free relay.

Riley likes where his group sits right now and feels like both his boys’ and girls’ team are equipped to do some good things to finish up the season.

“I think both teams are on the path to a successful season,” Riley said. “They will continue to grow as a team as we get closer to the championship season.”
