Iris S. Whitley

Iris S. Whitley, 95, passed away Jan. 15, 2020. She was born in Gates County, N.C., the daughter of the late Lowery Jackson Spivey and Fannie Stallings Spivey. She was predeceased by her husband, Welton Roger Whitley Sr.; son, Alvin Whitley; and son-in-law, Steve Barnes. Iris retired after 40 years from Colonial Stores. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Suffolk.

Iris is survived by her daughter, Barbara Whitley Barnes; sons and daughters-in-law, W. Roger Whitley Jr. and Kay Whitley, and John Ray Whitley and Judy Whitley, Syble Whitley; grandchildren and their spouses, Jason David Barnes (Maria), Cory Alan Barnes (Jessica), and numerous other grandchildren; great-grandchildren, Logan, Leland and Kaylynn Barnes, and numerous other great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Lloyd Spivey (Jean); and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, 2020, at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory with the Rev. Dr. David Edgell officiating. Burial will follow at Holly Lawn Cemetery.
