The Suffolk Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. and Hilton Garden Inn Suffolk Riverfront will present a community health fair on Saturday at the downtown hotel.

This community health fair will be free admission and open to the public from 9 a.m. to noon at the hotel, located at 100 E. Constance Road.

According to Sharon Slaughter, media relations chair for the Suffolk Alumnae Chapter, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. provides an array of public service initiatives focusing on educational development, economic development, international awareness and involvement, political awareness and involvement, and physical and mental health.

This community health fair is one of the Suffolk Alumnae Chapter’s programs for physical and mental health, Slaughter wrote in an email Monday.

“The Suffolk Alumnae Chapter’s community health fair is an educational and interactive event designed for health promotion and disease prevention for empowering a healthy Suffolk community,” she wrote.

Free regular mammograms will be available for uninsured attendees, along with 2D and 3D mammograms for those with insurance. Mammograms can be scheduled online at chesapeakemammo.com.

Education on prostate health medication will be provided by the Hampton Roads Prostate Health Forum, according to Slaughter. The Omega Chapter of Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Inc. will conduct blood pressure screenings, and Knox Audiology and Hearing Care will conduct hearing tests.

Healthy Smiles Dental of Hampton Roads and Taylor Orthodontics, PLLC will provide dental care and education, and the Hampton University Pharmacy Department and Novo Nordisk Pharmaceuticals will provide medicine education.

State Farm Insurance and SYD Financial Solution, LLC/JAG Consultants will provide information on financials, estate planning and more.

More than a dozen agencies will be providing services and screenings on Saturday, including the American Red Cross, Bon Secours Stroke Prevention Program, Chesapeake Regional’s Mobile Mammography Unit and others.

“Western Tidewater Community Services Board will provide mental health services, including supports for individuals with developmental disabilities, and advocacies related to overcoming substance abuse,” Slaughter wrote Monday.

There will also be door prizes, Ident-A-Kid Child ID provided by the Suffolk Sheriff’s Office, voter registration and 2020 Census information. Email sacdst64.pmh@gmail.com for more information about the community health fair.

The Suffolk Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. will also hold its Black History Month Extravaganza on Saturday. This Extravaganza will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. at the East Suffolk Recreation Center, 138 S. Sixth St.
