To the editor:

I was recently made aware that John Carr, publisher of the Suffolk News-Herald, has accepted another position at the Salisbury Post in North Carolina.

During the five years that John has been in Suffolk, I have had the pleasure of working closely with him on a business and government level. The first time I met John, I immediately got the impression he intended to become involved in our community, listen to its citizens and use the “power of the press” to objectively report news and keep the public informed of community events.

I was not disappointed. John, with the assistance of Tracy Agnew and her editorial staff, have provided an invaluable service to our residents by providing accurate reporting of municipal meetings that include: City Council, Planning Commission, Economic Development, Redevelopment and Housing Authority, School Board and more. In addition, agendas are published to give citizens notice of upcoming events.

During John’s tenure at the helm, the Suffolk News-Herald has truly evolved into the primary source for keeping Suffolk informed.

I regret that John is moving on and look forward to working with new publisher Betty Ramsey. I will miss John’s demeanor, his character and his devotion to his profession and wish him nothing but blessings in his future endeavors.
