There’s good news for drivers in Virginia, as the price for gas has closed the gap from last year, AAA Tidewater Virginia announced Monday.

The average price for gas in Virginia on Monday was $2.21, which is a four-cent drop from last week and only a one-cent difference compared to last year, the press release states. Gas prices are even lower in Hampton Roads at $2.16, which is eight cents less than last month.

According to the press release, gas prices have not been cheaper year-over-year since before Thanksgiving last November.

“Gas prices pushed cheaper year-over-year in the last 30 days, going from 22 cents to just one cent more expensive,” Holly Dalby, spokesperson for AAA Tidewater Virginia, states in the press release. “However, maintenance season and the upcoming switchover to summer blend could break the downward trend in coming weeks.”

On Monday, gasbuddy.com recorded Suffolk gas prices that ranged from $2.01 to $2.29, which is a decline from the $2.10-to-$2.29 range recorded by the website on Feb. 10.
