To the editor:

I am writing in response to the column titled, “The Affirming Mirror,” published in your newspaper on March 5, 2020.

I read the column by QuaWanna Bannarbie, and I was very empowered by the way she spoke of not seeing a mirror as a tool for vanity, but a resource for individual growth. I was intrigued in how the aspect of self-talk and knowing yourself by looking in the mirror can in turn establish deep connection with one’s emotions. Like Bannarbie, I also put up sticky notes on my mirror and write in Expo marker all over the entire surface words of affirmation and truth to myself. The effect of this is when I wake up and walk into my bathroom, I see only words of truth and power. I can then speak those over my mind, heart and body.

This concept of writing on the mirror is important to starting my day due to how it connects me to myself before I go to work alone without my close family or friends. Instead of alienating my emotions and worth, I validate them just as Bannarbie describes, in turn, getting in touch with myself before stepping into a different environment.
