The King’s Fork High School softball team is looking forward to try to build on the season they had last year.

Last year, King’s Fork won nine games, including a playoff win, before falling in the semifinals to Great Bridge High School last year. The Bulldogs graduated five seniors from last year’s team, and Coach Tom Hinnant believes King’s Fork has a chance to be even better than they were last season.

“We’ve added some pieces, which include a transfer and those returning from injury,” Hinnant said. “I believe we have an opportunity to be better than we were last year. The schedule plays out a little better for us. I think we will be competitive, if not more, this season.”

King’s Fork returns senior pitcher Cali Hinnant to the circle. She is a three-time All-District and All-Region selection. King’s Fork has also added Toni Jones, a transfer from Nansemond River High School.

The goal for this season is to make the state tournament, but Hinnant knows the Lady Bulldogs will have to hit better and make smarter decisions in their base running this season. Playing in the Southeastern District will be continue to be a true test for King’s Fork.

They will open the season at home at 5:30 p.m. March 17 against Nansemond River.
