To the editor:

My name is Tasha Wagner and I’m a single mother living in Suffolk. My passion is to be a voice for the voiceless. That’s why I volunteer in the community with Virginia Organizing.

Last month, I had the experience of going to the General Assembly, and it was awesome. I got a chance to meet two legislative assistants. Unfortunately, the senator and the delegate were in meetings, but both assistants took notes. I talked about flooding, child support and driver’s licenses for all. I spoke about what I’d like to see change — and people in Richmond listened!

I wanted to speak to a committee about environmental justice, flooding and funds for Suffolk Transit, but the committee meeting was running long. I hope to get another chance next year.

It feels good that I got a chance to speak up about the issues that affect my community. I’d encourage anybody else who wants to get involved to come join us! You can learn more on our website at virginia-organizing.org.
