Gas prices in Virginia are still falling as the coronavirus pandemic continues to develop, AAA Tidewater Virginia announced in a Monday press release.

The Monday press release states that the average price for a gallon of gas in Virginia is $2.06, which is a 10-cent drop since last week and a 28-cent decrease from last year.

Gas prices are even lower in Hampton Roads at $2.01 per gallon, and lower still at many stations in Suffolk. That’s a 10-cent drop in Hampton Roads gas prices compared to last week, and 31 cents cheaper than last year, the press release states.

Americans are seeing gas prices plummet nationwide. The press release states that, on the week, gas price averages in 35 states decreased by double-digits, which is pushing the national average to $2.25. That is the cheapest price point of the year, according to the press release.

Gas prices are declining during this uncertain time of the COVID-19 pandemic, despite increasing gasoline demand and decreasing U.S. stock levels.

“The gas price in the commonwealth has dropped significantly in just seven days,” Holly Dalby, spokeswoman for AAA Tidewater Virginia, stated in the press release. “AAA expects gas prices to continue trending cheaper before the end of March.”

On Monday evening, gasbuddy.com recorded Suffolk gas prices that ranged from $1.76 to $2.05, a very steep decline from the $1.96 to $2.19 range that was recorded by the website on March 9, and the $2.01 to $2.29 range recorded on March 2.
