Suffolk Police are investigating a breaking and entering and the theft of 11 vehicles from a local collision and rental center.

The incident happened in the early morning hours on Wednesday at Mike Duman Collision and Rental Center in the 2200 block of North Main Street, according to a city press release.

Preliminary investigation found multiple unknown subjects broke a door at the facility, stole several vehicles’ keys from the business and used them to steal a total of 11 vehicles from the lot.

Most of the involved vehicles belonged to the business; however, several customers’ vehicles there for service were also stolen.

Five of the stolen vehicles have already been recovered in various other Hampton Roads cities, including those that belonged to customers, the press release stated.

Stolen vehicles still missing include a 2015 Chevrolet Sonic, gray in color, Virginia plates VVZ-9135; a 2013 Dodge Dart, black in color, Virginia plates XDZ-4525; a 2017 Nissan Sentra, white in color, Virginia plates XDF-9459; a 2019 Nissan Versa, blue in color, Virginia plates USW-8875; and a 2018 Nissan Altima, silver in color, Virginia plates WLP-2660.

Several offices in the business were also ransacked and had items stolen.

On Wednesday, Duman said it’s been happening around Hampton Roads. City spokeswoman Diana Klink said that while she couldn’t give details, she could confirm several other area dealerships have experienced thefts.

“It’s never a good time for an event like this to happen, but it’s especially frustrating when we’re already dealing with our current uncertainties,” Duman said.
