Local cases inch up by 2

For the second day in a row, new cases of COVID-19 in the Western Tidewater Health District increased by only two.
There are now 66 cases in the local health district — 31 in Suffolk, 24 in Isle of Wight County, six in Franklin and five in Southampton County.
Statewide, the number of positive cases reached a new benchmark at 4,042 cases, almost 11 percent up from Wednesday. There have been 109 total deaths, the Virginia Department of Health reported.
According to the Virginia Healthcare and Hospital Association, there are 669 people currently hospitalized that have tested positive. Another 627 are in the hospital with test results pending.
The confirmed and pending cases combined number 469 in the ICU and 285 on ventilators. There are 700 total ventilators in use at hospitals — 26 percent of the total on hand.
