To the editor:

Regarding the article “Be cautious for children on roadways” (March 27), being a cyclist myself, I appreciate the points Ms. (Diana) Klink makes. I have had close encounters with motor vehicles when riding or walking.

I only wish she had said that all cyclists should wear an approved helmet when riding, and parents should require their children to do so and they should set the proper example. Other cities and counties in our commonwealth have laws that specify helmet use; unfortunately, Suffolk does not.
