The Western Tidewater Health District now has 132 confirmed cases of COVID-19, according to numbers released by the Virginia Department of Health on Wednesday morning.

That’s up by only two from Tuesday’s count, but Tuesday’s count was a rise of 34 from Monday. Most of that increase was in Isle of Wight County.

In the Western Tidewater Health District, 60 people in Isle of Wight County have tested positive, with 59 in Suffolk, seven in Franklin and six in Southampton County.

Statewide, 6,500 people have tested positive, the VDH said. About 44,169 test results have been received.

The Virginia Hospital and Healthcare Association reports there are 802 COVID-19 patients hospitalized, and another 496 are hospitalized with test results pending.

There are 394 patients in ICUs statewide who have a confirmed or pending test result, the VHHA reported. About 234 of them are on ventilators.

Statewide, 695 ventilators are in use for COVID-19 patients as well as other patients. That represents 24 percent of the statewide ventilators on hand.

The Virginia Department of Health reports 25 patients in Western Tidewater are hospitalized, about 19 percent of the district’s cases.
