Local cases rise nearly 20 percent

The Western Tidewater Health District now has 185 cases of COVID-19.

There are 83 cases in Isle of Wight County, 81 in Suffolk, 12 in Franklin and nine in Southampton County. The total is a 19-percent increase from Friday to Saturday.

Statewide, there are 8,053 cases of COVID-19. About 258 Virginians have died of the illness.

The Virginia Hospital and Healthcare Association reports 821 people are hospitalized who have been confirmed positive for the disease. About 486 people are hospitalized with test results pending.

There are 398 people in the ICU with confirmed or suspected COVID-19, and 230 are on a ventilator.

About 608 ventilators are in use at hospitals total, about 21 percent of the ventilators on hand.

There are 29 people hospitalized in the Western Tidewater Health District.
