Local cases rise 10 percent

The Western Tidewater Health District now has 205 cases of COVID-19.

There are 91 cases in Suffolk, 86 in Isle of Wight county, 16 in Southampton County and 12 in Franklin. The total is a 10-percent increase from Saturday to Sunday.

Statewide, there are 8,537 cases of COVID-19. About 277 Virginians have died of the illness.

The Virginia Hospital and Healthcare Association reports 820 people are hospitalized who have been confirmed positive for the disease. About 499 people are hospitalized with test results pending.

There are 388 people in the ICU with confirmed or suspected COVID-19, and 231 are on a ventilator.

About 598 ventilators are in use at hospitals total, about 21 percent of the ventilators on hand.

There are 33 people hospitalized in the Western Tidewater Health District.
