Thanks to a generous donor, a newly established scholarship will help graduating high school seniors continue their education at Camp Community College.

The $55,000 scholarship will be awarded once in fall each academic year and will cover the recipients’ full tuition costs for two years.

“We are so grateful for this opportunity to help more students continue their education,” said Interim Director of Institutional Advancement Tony Clark. “This will make a monumental difference in the lives of the students receiving this award.”

This award has been established by the Street family to honor their late father, John R. Williams Street, better known to others as Bill. “My father lived in Franklin from the mid-1950s until he retired in 1980,” said his son, Ed Street. “He loved the community of Franklin and appreciated the opportunity and enrichment that education brought to one’s life.”

Aside of the fact that a student needs to be a graduating senior from one of the high schools in the college service region — Franklin, Suffolk, Isle of Wight or Southampton counties — a student must also have a 2.5 grade point average or higher and maintain the GPA while enrolled at the college.

Students may use the scholarship for college whether they plan to transfer or complete a two-year Career Technical Education program.

“The intent here is to help students follow their dream,” said Street.

The scholarship application cycle at Camp is currently open for graduating high school seniors, new and continuing students, and Dual Enrollment Camp Opportunity Scholarships (DECOS).
