Boy Scout Troop 73 has a fundraiser every year to support the troop, but this year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, that’s been a little bit different.

The change has left them with lots of peanuts, and they’re hoping the public can help at an upcoming peanut delivery drive-through.

Each year, the troop has a “Show and Sales” in downtown Suffolk. The troop buys peanuts based on last year’s sales and sells the peanuts over multiple weekends from March through May. The goal is to sell out.

However, due to COVID-19, the “Show and Sales” was canceled.

The profit from the fundraiser supports the troop for the entire year. The funds are used to buy gear for campouts, fees for the troop to attend local Scout events, for trips and summer camps. It also helps reduce the costs families pay for charter and membership fees.

The troop has a troop scholarship program that pays for summer camp fees and other fees as well.

“It also funds our Court of Honor events that we hold four times a year to celebrate and award Scouts for their achievements,” said Logan Fiedler, one of the Boy Scouts in the troop.

Logan’s mother, Sammy, said they have been trying their best but still have been left with lots and lots of nuts.

“We have been trying to sell them individually, but are having issues getting the word out,” she said. “You can only sell so many peanuts to your neighbors and friends.”

Troop 73 has six snack flavors available: Cajun Spiced Peanuts, Peanut Square Brittle and Homestyle Salted Peanuts are $10 per can. Double Dipped Chocolate Peanuts, Honey Roasted Peanuts and Butter Toffee Peanuts are $12 per can.

Place your peanut orders by emailing Troop73isNuts@gmail.com. Payment can be accomplished at a peanut delivery drive-through from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 13, at Magnolia United Methodist Church, 1764 Wilroy Road.
