Parks & Rec to hold limited summer camps

Suffolk Parks & Recreation on Wednesday announced it will conducted limited, in-person camps this summer.

In keeping with state guidelines, limited summer camp spaces and sites will be available for rising kindergarten to rising sixth-graders. Four-year-olds must have completed the Suffolk Public School’s Pre-K4/Early Start program.

Precautions will be in place to ensure the safety of children and staff, to include daily screening procedures.

Summer Camp will occur at three Joint-Use sites — Booker T. Washington, Creekside and Mack Benn Jr. Recreation Centers. Drive-up registration will occur by appointment only. Call Recreation Supervisor Shanta Bynum at 514-4502 for a registration appointment.

Once an appointment is made, customers will be directed to registration sites at either Mack Benn Jr. or Creekside recreation centers. Customers must bring check or money order for payment, proof of residency, proof of child’s grade, and information for two emergency contacts. Staff will assist customers with registration forms.

  • Mack Benn, Jr. Recreation Center is located at 1253 Nansemond Parkway.
  • Booker T. Washington Recreation Center is located at 204 Walnut Street.
  • Creekside Recreation Center is located at 1000 Bennetts Creek Park Road.

The theme of this year’s summer camps is Planet Recreation. It will take place from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, June 29 to Aug. 14. This program is filled with fun activities, arts and crafts and clubs. The cost is $42.50 for the first one-week session, and $85 per two-week session, with a one-time $35 registration fee.
