The Alzheimer’s Associations plans to go forward with its annual walk on Saturday, Oct. 3.

COVID-19 has caused many cancellations of annual events this year, but the 2020 Walk to End Alzheimer’s is still scheduled in Suffolk. However, there will be a few changes.

The event will not take place as one big group at YMCA Camp Arrowhead as in past years. Instead, participants will walk with a small group or their family around their neighborhood.

Instead of picking up any T-shirts, medals or other prizes earned, the items will be mailed directly to the participant’s house to reduce contact.

A live opening ceremony will be held online to kick off the event as usual. After the virtual ceremony, everyone will start their individual walks.

“We will send out more information and details later,” said Alice Beaton, a volunteer from the walk committee. “Right now, we just want the public to know that we are still having it, and to keep registering.”

Participants can register at www.alz.org/walk to get ready for the event and start fundraising.
