The Suffolk Sheriff’s Office is holding a sidewalk chalk contest to engage the community.

With COVID-19 restricting gatherings and events, the Suffolk Sheriff’s Office found a safe way to bring the community together.

“It is a good and safe activity for the kids to do, and kick off our engagement events,” said Katie Jones, Suffolk Sheriff’s Office community engagement coordinator.

Participants 12 years old and under can make a chalk drawing on their property and send a picture to enter the contest. Participants can send in as many entries as they would like through Aug. 28.

“It is something fun to do and will get kids outside,” said Jones. “Who doesn’t love doing art and sidewalk chalk?”

Three winners will be chosen for a surprise from the sheriff. Winners will be announced Sept. 9.

“It’s a no-cleanup activity, just take a picture and send it in,” said Jones. “We are hoping to get tons of entries. We can’t wait to see what everyone comes up with.”

Pictures of drawings can be emailed to Katie Jones at kajones@suffolkva.us with the child’s name, age of participants and address. This contest is only for Suffolk residents.
