The man who exchanged shots with police Sept. 16 in the Oakland community has been discharged from the hospital and has been arrested.

Andrew Brock Jr., 30, of Windsor, had been hospitalized after being shot in an exchange of gunfire around 7:32 p.m. by Suffolk Police as they tried to serve warrants on him from Smithfield, according to a previous news release. The charges against Brock include burglary, discharging a firearm in an occupied building, aggravated malicious wounding and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, according to a Sept. 24 news release.

Brock is currently being held without bond in the Western Tidewater Regional Jail.

Brock had been initially wanted by Smithfield Police on those charges relating to an incident Sept. 15 in the 100 block of Cattail Lane in Smithfield in which he had allegedly been arguing with his ex-girlfriend through the closed apartment door when he kicked the door open and fired multiple shots, striking a man several times before leaving the scene, the Sept. 24 news release stated.

Suffolk Police had been looking for Brock on the confirmed warrants when the Sept. 16 incident took place in the 5500 block of Godwin Boulevard along Route 10, around the area of the Friendship Cathedral Church near Oakland Elementary School.

The two involved Suffolk Police officers were not injured during the incident.

While investigating the Sept. 16 shooting, police received information that Brock had also been responsible for the Sept. 15 shooting of a marked police vehicle that was moving through the 200 block of North Broad Street, according to the Sept. 24 release.

Police said the internal affairs investigation is ongoing, and additional charges are pending. The two officers involved in the Sept. 16 incident remain on administrative leave with pay pending the outcome of both investigations.
