Suffolk Police advise that motorists should be aware of the potential for delays and heavy traffic this weekend along the Bridge Road corridor due to extended northbound closures scheduled for the I-664 Monitor-Merrimac Bridge Tunnel for paving operations as advised by the Virginia Department of Transportation.

VDOT has advised that motorists can expect the full extended closure of all northbound lanes of I-664 MMMBT, which is scheduled to begin as early as 9 p.m. this Friday. They further note that the affected lanes are scheduled to reopen at 5 a.m. Monday, and that these scheduled maintenance activities are weather-dependent.

Crews will have detours in place for motorists who need to travel in these areas during the closure. VDOT advises that motorists should use the Route 17 James River Bridge or the I-64 Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel as alternate routes. Further, they encourage motorists to visit www.511virginia.org, call 511, or download Virginia’s free 511mobile app, for current traffic and travel information.
