With advisories and regulations taken into consideration, Suffolk Parks and Recreation, Suffolk Tourism, and the Suffolk Library have coordinated Halloween events for all ages to enjoy in October.

No mandates have been made yet concerning regular trick-or-treating, according to a city press release. Those ages 12 years old and under can participate until 8 p.m. by the city code. Families and neighbors can decide on whether to do alternative or classic trick-or-treating.

Parks and Recreation will hold Fright Night Drive-Through Trunk or Treat at three locations. Decorate your car and have the whole family in costume as you stop for a picture and a treat while supplies last. This will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. on Oct. 17 at the Creekside Recreation Center, 1000 Bennetts Creek Park Road, and on Oct. 24 at Whaleyville Recreation Center, 132 Robertson St., and then from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 31 at the East Suffolk Recreation Center, 134 S. Sixth St.

Carpool Cinema will have two dates to enjoy seasonal favorites while parked in your car. Enjoy “Hocus Pocus” at 7 p.m. Oct. 17 at Bennett’s Creek Park, 3000 Bennetts Creek Park Road, or “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” at 7 p.m. in the parking lot behind the Godwin Court Building, 150 N. Main St. There will not be concession stands, so bring a snack to enjoy. Pets are allowed but must be on a leash when out of the car.

Experience a live question and answer session with Pamela Kinney on haunted Virginia from 2 to 3 p.m. Oct 20, on Zoom. The local horror and fantasy author will answer questions about her nonfiction ghost books. Visit tinyurl.com/hauntva to register.

Visit North Suffolk Library, 2000 Bennetts Creek Park Road, or Morgan Memorial Library, 443 W. Washington St., in your costume for a curbside trick or treat from 10:30 a.m. to noon on Oct. 31. Enjoy receiving a treat and posing in a photo booth.

In partnership with the Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts, Suffolk Tourism is having the second annual Friday Night Frights Classic Horror Film Series. This event shows three cult classic horror movies rated R, so children under 17 are not permitted without a parent. Tickets are $3 and may be purchased at SuffolkCenter.org/movies-on-the-big-screen. Only 100 seats are available due to social distancing. The movies start at 8 p.m. with Carrie on Oct 16, Psycho on Oct. 23, and Poltergeist on Oct. 30, at the center, 110 W. Finney Ave.

Follow a costumed guide through the shadows of historic Main Street, discovering stories, legends and “unexplained occurrences” by lantern light at Legends of Main Street: A Suffolk Ghost Walk from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 24, departing from the Mr. Peanut statue at the Suffolk Visitor Center Pavilion, 524 N. Main St. Reservations are required at VisitSuffolkVa.com. Prices are $10 adults, $8 seniors 60 and above, military, and children 9 to 12.

Together On Stage at the Suffolk Center Suffolk Tourism will continue at 8 p.m. with Lewis McGhee Oct. 1, Juju Drum featuring Kyra LaVonne Oct. 15, and Connected on Oct. 29 at the Birdsong Theater, 110 W. Finney Avenue.

Suffolk Farmers’ Market will continue from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays at 524 N. Main St. Guests may make on-site purchases from vendors offering fresh fruits and vegetables, homemade goods, and seasonal items. Customers may also continue to contact vendors directly to pre-order items for Saturday pick-ups. Handwashing stations and hand sanitizer will be readily available.
