The city of Suffolk will have opportunities for the public to provide feedback on their desire for a new Kings Highway Bridge, according to a city press release.

The project is not currently funded; however, the city needs public input on the preferred location of a new bridge if one is to be constructed in the future.

Two outdoor public meetings are scheduled. The first will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. Oct. 28 at John Yeates Middle School, 4901 Bennetts Pasture Road; this is a change from a previously announced location. The second will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. Oct. 29 at Lone Star Lakes Park, 401 Kings Highway.

In keeping with Gov. Ralph Northam’s mandates due to COVID-19, the wearing of face masks and social distancing measures will be practiced at these outdoor public meetings.

For those unable to attend the scheduled meetings, feedback can be provided at the online survey that can be found at the project website, www.suffolkva.us/1482/Kings-Highway-Bridge-Study.

The public comment period will close 21 calendar days after these public feedback meetings. City representatives will review and evaluate all information received as a result of the public meetings. Written comments must be postmarked, emailed or delivered to the City of Suffolk by Nov. 19 to the following address: Kings Highway Bridge, Robert E. Lewis, P.E., Assistant Director of Public Works, City Hall, 2nd Floor, 442 W. Washington St., Suffolk, VA 23434; phone 757-514-7725; email: relewis@suffolkva.us.

Written comments that are received at the public information meetings, or by the Nov. 19 deadline, will be made a part of the official record.
