On Election Day, with no warning, Chick-fil-A reopened with a drive-through line that put the polling locations to shame.

On Sept. 3, residents of downtown Suffolk said a temporary goodbye to the local Chick-fil-A at 1018 N. Main St. This left residents to make the journey to Harbour View, Chesapeake, or even Elizabeth City, N.C., to get a taste of their beloved chicken.

With no previous announcement, the adored fast-food restaurant returned on Nov. 3 to allow everyone to get their favorite comfort food on an Election Day that is bound for the history books.

“We’re thrilled by the outcome of this remodel,” said Nicki Digby-Dalton, operator of Chick-fil-A Main Street. “The space is more accommodating for guests and team members alike, providing a more efficient experience for all.”

Some of the renovations include a dining room in the chain’s latest design. Unfortunately, the new and improved dining room is still closed at this time due to the pandemic. Pictures on the restaurant’s social media accounts have teased the chic new look that awaits guests once dining-in is once again available.

For now, guests can enjoy the permanent two-lane drive-through that wraps around the parking lot. Under canopy coverings, menus are placed closer to the end of the line to allow guests a chance to look before getting to the speaker box or order taker. The canopies also include fans and heaters to keep the outside order takers and guests more comfortable.

With the drive-through line no longer snaking through the parking lot, mobile ordering is also an easier option. Permanent and temporary mobile order and DoorDash parking spots are now more accessible without the previous drive-through interference. Traffic through the parking lot has improved, even if the traffic to get there is still backed up to Main Street.

The kitchen was expanded for more capacity for the workers, as was the drive-through area behind the counter to allow more room to serve guests efficiently.

“We can’t wait to serve the community our same delicious food in a new and improved setting,” said Digby-Dalton.

Chick-fil-A Main Street is looking for about 30 more team members to join their team and serve chicken to the Suffolk community. To apply, text “CAREERS” to 541-904-2977.
