Harvey Hicks, formerly of Maple Street, Suffolk, quietly transitioned on Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2020, in Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Mich., after a brief illness. He was born in Southampton County to the late James Rufus Hicks and Lula Valentine Hicks Taylor. He was predeceased by both his parents, his wife, Juanita Batchelor Hicks, and daughter, Sheryl Hicks Wilson Short.

Through the years Harvey has been affectionately known as “Jack,” “Baby Cakes” and “Cake.” Harvey was a proud U.S. Army veteran and retired from the U.S. Postal Service. He was a long-time original member of the Suffolk Athletics Boosters Inc. Harvey was also an active member of the Metropolitan Baptist Church, Suffolk, since the early 1950s. He faithfully served as a diligent member of the Trustee Ministry for more than 50 years.

Harvey leaves to cherish his memory, his daughter, Marsha Hicks Bishop (Charles), of Southfield, Mich.; granddaughter Heather Renee Bishop, of Beverly Hills, Mich.; sister, Mrs. Edyth Hicks Copeland (Elgin Copeland Sr. — deceased), of Suffolk; brother, David Hicks (Daphi — deceased), of Smithfield; goddaughter, Pamela Jones Watford (Percy Watford) of Suffolk, and several other relatives and friends.
