New mayor, council members to be sworn in Jan. 4

A new mayor and council member will be among those sworn in when the city holds its investiture and reorganizational meeting Jan. 4.

The meeting will be at 1 p.m. at City Hall in the council chamber at 442 W. Washington St.

Current Chuckatuck Borough councilman Mike Duman will be sworn in as the city’s new mayor. Duman defeated incumbent mayor Linda Johnson and two other candidates in the Nov. 4 election.

LeOtis Williams, who defeated longtime incumbent Curtis Milteer and one other candidate for the Whaleyville Borough council seat, will also be sworn in.

Two incumbents who won re-election to their respective seats, Sleepy Hole Borough Councilman Roger Fawcett and Nansemond Borough Councilman Lue Ward, will also be sworn in.

Circuit Court Clerk Randy Carter will administer the oath of office, and the investiture ceremony to be followed by a reorganizational meeting where an election of vice mayor will take place.

The city has held an investiture ceremony since the city was incorporated in 1974.
