Lucretia D. Moyler was born on Dec. 12, 1938, to the late Moses and Mary Jones in Suffolk. She departed this life on Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2021. 

Lucretia, fondly known by many as “Lu” or “Momma Lu”, graduated from Booker. T. Washington High School in 1957, and immediately following graduation, she started her career as a federal employee at the Norfolk Naval Base. She was a dedicated employee for 35 years until her retirement.

Lucretia was a dedicated and lifelong member of Macedonia African Methodist Episcopal Church, where she was a stewardess and member of the women’s ministry, Pastor’s Aid Society, and the Lay Organization.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Lolita Wilkins, and her sister, Doretha Ricks. Left to cherish her precious memory are her grandsons, Dereck Wilkins Jr. and DaRon Parker; her great-grandchildren, Londyn Black, DaRon Parker Jr. and Dereck Wilkins III; her brother, the Rev. Anthony Jones (Yvonne); her niece, Lisa Kirkland (Donovan); and several great-nieces and friends.

A private memorial will be held at T.E. Cooke-Overton Funeral Home. Expressions of sympathy and flowers may be extended at cookeovertonfuneralhome.com.
