Portsmouth man dies in crash

A Portsmouth man died at the scene of a crash in Suffolk late Monday.

Suffolk Police and Suffolk Fire & Rescue units responded to the single-vehicle accident in the 1600 block of Portsmouth Boulevard/Route 58. It was reported at 10:54 p.m., according to a city press release.

Preliminary investigation found the SUV was traveling eastbound when it went off the roadway, struck a guardrail, became airborne and came to rest partially submerged in a ditch.

The driver and only occupant was pronounced deceased at the scene. He has been identified as Dayquan Eley, 28, of Portsmouth, the press release stated.

Suffolk Police continue their investigation into the cause of the accident.
