The grand jury on Monday handed down indictments against a man who was involved in a police shooting last September.

Andrew Brock Jr. was indicted on 20 felonies, including three counts of attempted capital murder of a law enforcement officer.

Brock, of Windsor, was involved in the shooting with Suffolk Police on Sept. 16. Police had located him in the Oakland community south of Chuckatuck, seeking him on warrants out of Smithfield. Smithfield Police Department said Brock was a suspect in a shooting the previous morning at his ex-girlfriend’s apartment. The man was arguing with her through her closed door, Smithfield Police said, and when she refused to let him in, he allegedly kicked open the door, fired multiple rounds and struck an adult male in the abdomen. That man was recovering after surgery.

When Suffolk Police located Brock in Oakland, according to a city press release from the time of the shooting, he was armed with a firearm, and shots were exchanged, leaving Brock with gunshot wounds. No officers were injured.

Brock was airlifted to a local hospital, where he was treated and released.

During the investigation, Suffolk Police determined Brock was also responsible for a shooting at a marked police vehicle patrolling in downtown Suffolk the previous evening, according to a city press release.

Brock’s full list of indictments is as follows: three counts of attempted capital murder of a law enforcement officer; one count of attempted capital murder — multiple; six counts of malicious shooting at an occupied vehicle; four counts of use of a firearm in commission of a felony; one count of destruction of property with intent; one count of prisoner destroying by fire; three counts of assault and battery of a law enforcement officer; and one count of resisting arrest.

Brock’s first court date in Suffolk Circuit Court has not yet been set. His Smithfield charges are set for a preliminary hearing in Isle of Wight General District Court on March 4.
