If you’ve never been to see the Exhibit of Excellence: Suffolk Student Art presented by the Suffolk Art League at the Suffolk Art Gallery, we urge you to make this your year to go.

The art gallery is a spacious venue and is rarely crowded, so it is a pretty safe bet as far as pandemic regulations go. Wear your mask and stay six feet apart from others, and you’ll be rewarded with, as the name of the exhibit aptly states, an array of excellence.

Why do we love it so much? It was created by the young people of our city — people who are sophomores, juniors and seniors in high school and are quite talented artists.

This year’s exhibit includes painting, drawing and photography, of course, but also collage, clay work, mixed media and even paper quilling.

Adults and fellow youngsters alike will be blown away by the variety, style and vision of these artworks and the talent of the young artists. Lest we forget to mention another important group, the art teachers of our city surely are bringing up a new generation of artistic visionaries as witnessed through this work. Lastly, we thank all those involved with the Suffolk Art League who helped this show come to fruition.

Unfortunately this year, students could not gather in person to see the exhibit and hear their name called. However, you can visit www.suffolkartleague.com or visit facebook.com/suffolkartleague to see a video of the awards announcements.

The exhibit is on display through Feb. 26. The gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free and open to the public.
