A new egg-citing approach is coming to a familiar event for this spring.

Suffolk Parks and Recreation’s annual Spring Eggstravaganza will occur on March 27 at Bennett’s Creek Park, 3000 Bennetts Creek Park Road. With guidelines still in place from the pandemic, the annual event had to tweak its style.

The event will open at 6:15 p.m. to allow attendees to find a spot and purchase food from the vendors. Suffolk Parks and Recreation staff will pass out a craft for the kids attending to take home. Peter Cottontail will also make his rounds to give out candy-filled eggs to those who set out a basket. Around 7:30 p.m., everyone can sit back and enjoy the movie “Hop,” about the heir to the Easter Bunny business who would rather be a drummer. The movie is expected to last until 9 p.m. and close out the event.

“It’s going to be different because of the current guidelines,” said Chelsea Morgan, the special events coordinator at Suffolk Parks and Recreation. “Previous years have been more like a festival in the morning, where this is similar to a movie in the park at night.”

Even though it is in a drive-in movie format, families are not required to stay in their car the entire time. Each vehicle will have a designated space for families to sit outside and enjoy the movie and their purchased snacks. With this still being an outside event, Suffolk Parks and Recreation will keep an eye on the weather forecast as the date approaches.

“I really want to emphasize that this event is registration only,” said Morgan. “There won’t be onsite registration so people have to beforehand.”

The event is free, but due to gathering restrictions, registration is required. Participants are encouraged to print or screenshot the receipt for entry into the event. Registration is per car with all passengers legally seated. Visit suffolkva.us/parks and call 514-7267 with any questions.
