Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

My name is Marvin Jacobs. I’m a leader with Virginia Organizing.

Virginia Organizing hosted a dismantling racism workshop earlier this year. Virginia Organizing has been having dismantling racism workshops for more than 25 years. In the wake of George Floyd’s death, community members have seen the need to have a conversation about racism.

We did an exercise called “I remember.” This exercise asked participants to recall the first time they witnessed racism. We went over systemic racism, white privilege and the like.

The goals of the workshops were:

  • Share and think about our own experiences with racism and listen to the experiences of others;
  • To talk about race in a racially mixed setting;
  • To develop a better understanding of personal, cultural and institutional racism;
  • To begin a plan of action to use in your community, organization or chapter.

Virginia Organizing wants to see changes improve lives for the people of color and promote diversity. If you want to get involved, you can contact your Suffolk organizer.
