Myrtle Francis Spivey Jones Fodrie, 88, of Suffolk, passed away March 20, 2021. Myrtle was born May 18, 1932, in Portsmouth, to the late Mae Pierce Hall Spivey and Eugene Fletcher Spivey. Myrtle is predeceased by Judson (Sim) Jones and Franklin Graham Fodrie; her sons, Judson Wayne Jones and Kenneth Ray Jones; and son-in-law, Frank Nelms Jr. She is also predeceased by her brothers, Delmar Lee Spivey Sr. and Willard Fletcher Spivey. 

Myrtle was a graduate of Smithfield High School and was a loving mother to three children. Dedicated to serving others, she worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Obici Hospital. After retiring from Obici, she worked at Juwaco Inc. to help her son, Wayne, in the office until her husband, Frank, retired so they could travel. It was then that they set out to visit all 50 states.

Myrtle also enjoyed gardening and fishing, but more than anything, she loved having her family gathered around the table enjoying a home-cooked meal. Throughout her life, Myrtle was a faithful and active member of Southside Baptist Church.

Her memory will be cherished and carried on by her daughter, Catherine Jones Nelms;  her grandchildren, Ryan Justin Nelms Sr. (Lori), Katelin Jones Ashley (Todd), and Michaela Jones

Street (Corey); and great-grandchildren Rylea Nelms, Ryan Nelms Jr., and Logan Nelms. She is

also survived by her brother, Marvin David Spivey (Shirley), and numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 24 at Meadowbrook Memorial

Gardens with Pastor Fred Grey officiating. Mrs. Fodrie will be available for viewing beginning Tuesday, March 23 at R.W. Baker Funeral Home, 509 W. Washington, St. Condolences may be made at rwbakerfh.com.
