Doing the right thing

A couple of sayings come to mind when we think of all the things local folks have done to help their neighbors get through this pandemic.

One is “Do it because it’s the right thing to do.” The other is “There’s never a wrong time to do the right thing.”

Recently, Faith Temple Ministries Apostolic Church held a spring food giveaway that handed out canned goods, meat, fruits, vegetables, oysters, rice and other items to families in need. It was not the first time the church has assisted others during the COVID-19 crisis, which has now stretched into more than a year-long event, but it was the first time it partnered up with Solid Rock Worldwide Ministries and Bountiful Blessings Inc.

Members of these ministries definitely did the right thing with this food giveaway. And while there’s never a wrong time to do the right thing, it was especially meaningful to do it during Lent, right before Holy Week. During His earthly ministry, Jesus Christ told His disciples that anything they had done for “the least of these,” they had done it as unto Him.

During a pandemic, when so many people are struggling, a food giveaway is but one of many “right things” one can do. Almost everywhere you turn, there are needs that can be filled.

Whatever you have done to help during this pandemic — whether you’ve handed out food and other necessities, helped people get their vaccines, picked up trash on the side of the road, done videos that helped kids, parents and teachers through their crisis schooling, just stayed home when you felt sick, or any number of other “right things” — we see you. And we want you to feel encouraged that you are doing the right thing.
