Overfilled propane tanks cause hazmat issue

Suffolk Fire & Rescue and Suffolk Police responded to a hazmat incident in the 3000 block of Frederick Street on Saturday.

The incident was reported at 4:48 p.m.

A mobile food truck had pulled over at this location to report a smell of gas due to what was determined to be overfilled propane tanks on the truck, according to a city press release. The area was blocked off pending the flaring of the tanks to alleviate the issue.

Responding units include Battalion 2, Engine 10, Safety 1, Ladder 5 and the Portsmouth Regional Hazmat team. Suffolk Police responded to assist with traffic control at the scene.
