Suffolk Fire & Rescue units responded Thursday morning to an incident at Mason’s Grill & Smokehouse in the 100 block of Burnetts Way.

Emergency Communications was contacted at 9:11 a.m. advising of smoke coming from the building, and the first unit arrived on scene at 9:17 a.m.

Once on scene, it was determined that an internal smoker that vents from the top of the building experienced an internal fire that extended outside of the smoker and also caused moderate damage to the kitchen area and range hood. The smoker was damaged and will need to be replaced, and the restaurant is closed at this time. Crews also ventilated the building. There were no injuries.

Responding units included Battalion 1; Engines 1, 2, 4, and 6; Ladders 5 and 6; EMS1; Rescue 1; Safety 1; and Medic 6.

The Fire Marshal’s Office will be investigating the cause of the fire.
