Shirley Lee Duke, 86, of Suffolk, passed away Thursday, May 20, 2021. He was the son of the late Clifton J. Duke and Cherry B. Duke. He was predeceased by seven siblings, Clifton Morrison Duke, Marion Junius Duke, Herman Byrd Duke, Marjorie Brinkley Copeland, James Elisha Duke and Clifton Louis Duke.

Mr. Duke was a member of Beech Grove UMC and worked for Norfolk Southern Railroad for 34 years. He was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather and friend to anyone who knew him. He loved a good cup of coffee and always loved to tell stories and have conversations with friends and family.

Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, Charlotte H. Duke; sons, James Clifton Duke (Barbara) of Portsmouth and William Alan Duke (Laura) of Newsoms; along with four grandchildren, Jimmy, Hillary, Parker and Nicholas.

A visitation will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 23, at R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory, 509 W. Washington St. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 24, at Bethlehem Christian Church Cemetery on Holland Road. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes memorial donations be made to Beech Grove UMC, 4251 Driver Lane Suffolk, VA 23435, or a charity of choice.
