Dr. Larry Odell Sharpe went to be with the Lord on May 31, 2021. He was born in Statesville, N.C., to the late Zebulon Vance Sharpe and Zelda Belle Austin Sharpe and was predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Angy Culpepper Sharpe.

Larry graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1954. Following graduation, he joined the U.S. Army and was stationed at the Deep Creek Nike site from 1954-58. He attended the Norfolk Division of the College of William and Mary and majored in biology and chemistry and received his M.D. degree at the Medical College of Virginia. He practiced dermatology for 43.5 years in Norfolk and Portsmouth, and for many of those years ran bi-weekly clinics at DePaul Hospital, the Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters, and Norfolk General Hospital.

He was active in local organizations he belonged to: American Academy of Dermatology, The Seaboard Medical Association of Virginia and North Carolina, Norfolk Academy of Medicine, Portsmouth Academy of Medicine, Eastern Virginia Medical School, North Suffolk Social Club, North Suffolk Rotary Club and served a term as president of Child and Family Services in the early ’70s.

Outside of the office, Larry enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, a good round of golf, and family gatherings.

He is survived by his son, Harry L. Sharpe, of Antioch, Tenn.; daughter, India Sharpe Meissel (Howard), of Battery Park; grandchildren, Austin Meissel and Brandon Sharpe; his brother, William Sharpe (JoAnn); sisters, Ann Bright and Sue Gillenwater; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 5, 2021, at Baker-Foster Funeral Home, 5685 Lee Farm Lane, Suffolk by the Rev. Kim Miller. The family will receive friends in the funeral home from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, June 4, 2021.
