Philip Edward Chaney, born in Suffolk on Nov. 13, 1961, to the late John L and Margaret M. Chaney, passed away June 6, 2021, at his home in Courtland. He was also predeceased by his brother, John “Andy” Chaney.

Philip was an extraordinary man, well known all over. Mr. Chaney was well known for his love of umpiring baseball and softball for many, many years. Phil had a heart of gold and would help any and everybody and would never expect anything in return.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Lu-Tarkim Kearney; sister and brother-in-law, Diane and Robert Walker; sister-in-law, Susan G. Chaney; nephews, Stan Riddick, Brandon and Ryan Chaney; and niece, Kristen Chaney and great-nephew, Maddox Chaney. Most importantly the two apples of his eye, his pride and joys, his grandchildren, Nicole and Mylaki Kearney. Also, he leaves his extended family the Kearneys as well as Dale and Micheal Bradshaw, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins that will all miss him deeply as well as the numerous children he encountered through the years of umpiring.
